You're not putting an iris on top of an iris.
And so those are the reasons.
It's sickening, isn't it?
It's like you know that you're going to cause this able-bodied young person to go blind and you're doing it anyways.
There is obviously a lot of things that can go wrong.
And so you kind of need to break it up for each procedure into short-term and long-term complications.
So for keratopigmentation, the short-term complications are inflammation, which is the most common, foreign body sensation, pain and light sensitivity.
You can also, which is really interesting, end up reducing the person's eye pressure, which is concerning.
You can get bacterial infections, swelling of the cornea, itching, tearing, and those are the short-term.
And then long-term, similar, you can get like constant foreign body sensations.
constant light sensitivity, and then these can persist.
But the most significant long-term complication is that you can get vessels growing into your cornea, rust formation in your cornea.
