I really think we are.
Kids got a dog phobia.
Someone says, here's what we should do.
First, lock them away.
Never show them a dog again.
Okay, we tried that.
Didn't work.
And now your peer group is going to start telling you, if you hide from it, that's not the way to get better from it.
whether it's abstinence, right?
We had this people in a lot of pain.
People didn't think that was a good idea.
Doctors at UCSF and other places didn't think it was a good idea for people to be in pain, so they medicated them.
No one knew there would be unintended consequences.
Certainly some people did, and there's lawsuits and jail time and all the rest for a few people, but most people were just doing the right thing.
In Catholic school, I also learned that road to hell is paved with good intentions.
We have to own that, right?
Thalidomide was a drug.
We were going to prevent women from having nausea during first trimester.
We didn't know it was going to cause birth defects, but we learned that lesson.
We processed it.
