They came on the market as blood pressure medications in the 1960s.
So we've got 65 years' worth of experience with these medications.
Nothing new is going to come up and bite us at this late date.
They're extremely safe, well-tolerated, and blood pressure medications.
They've been replaced because better things have come along.
And so now, almost exclusively, they're used for the treatment of children and adults with ADHD.
And what they do is they address the hyperactive impulsive components of ADHD.
The stimulants
handle performance.
They're really good for distractibility.
Not so good for impulsivity.
Not so good for hyperactivity.
And for that, we add in the alpha agonist.
Again, when I'm thinking about using an alpha agonist, I ask four questions.
I'm big on questions.
First thing I ask is the definition of RSD.
And that's plain.
But I continue.
I have to watch the sleep light.
