More United Nations troops will be headed to Haiti this year to assist local police who have been trying to defend their capital from armed gangs that have taken over 80% of the capital port-au-prince.
Carlos Ruiz Massou, the special representative of the UN Secretary General in Haiti, says as many as 5,500 troops would be deployed to Haiti.
His comments come as a presidential transitional council announced it had the votes to remove Haiti's embattled prime minister, Alex Didier Fizami.
