telling them they have to fix this.
And that was very formative for me.
Putting your whole... Because he could have been like, oh, this person's... It's not going to jeopardize the deal.
The person doesn't have that much influence.
They can just live with that.
But he never once did.
And he would put his own career on the line for it.
And that's what I've been doing ever since.
Every decision I made, including starting Overmind, has been putting my career on the line.
Especially starting Overmind, actually.
I was definitely putting my career on the line doing that.
And all of the decisions since, I'm betting my entire career on.
Because I know that there are people out there having a shit time, being scared of pressing the deploy button and having to deal with outages that they could never have possibly predicted because it was too complicated and they didn't know it existed.
And I know that's still happening every single day and...
So I'm doing what he did, which is putting my career on the line every single time I make a decision until it's fixed.
don't know i think if i was in that i've been in that situation and i think i would have ignored a great majority i did ignore a fair bit of the advice given to me nobody who's giving you reasonable pragmatic advice would tell you to quit your job and go and found a startup because it's not a reasonable or pragmatic thing to do and even the people who would give you that advice yeah go for it go and quit your job and and go and do this thing they will give you conflicting advice
if there's anything i've learned about being a founder it is that you can get advice that will tell you every possible different way of doing things and eventually you just need to stop asking for advice and start making your own decisions so i i think the only advice i could realistically give to somebody like that is not to put too much weight in advice i got when i was first getting started i got advice that was like you're doing it wrong you will you won't succeed
And I don't even know why I asked for the advice, because to be perfectly honest, I did not take it on board.
And in hindsight, I don't know why I bothered asking, because unless they said, yes, keep going, I was not going to make a different decision.
The person sitting on a plane who's really excited about that probably isn't going to change what they do, no matter what I say.
