Imagine if we changed the ABC charter to say that every news bulletin had to begin with

with a cab driver coming in here and yelling into your microphone about some lizard man conspiracy theory taking over the British royal family.

We would not call that freedom of speech.

We would call that, well, why are we forcing this information onto everyone?

And that's what social media algorithms do.

So we have to just change our perceptions that this is an open marketplace.

It's not.

The thumb is on the scale for certain types of content.

I would love for it to be an open marketplace.

Let's reward things based on their merits, not based on whatever the viral advertising machine decides is going to keep people engaged for a long time.

That would be a fantastic solution if it was libertarian.
