President Trump says a suspect who disrupted the White House Correspondents Association dinner Saturday was carrying multiple weapons but had been subdued and was now in custody.
The president said the suspect had multiple weapons.
The president was adamant in saying that the White House Correspondents' Dinner will be rescheduled.
The president then recounted his experience at the event.
The president said the incident was probably a lone shooter and indicated that police were searching the suspect's residence in California.
The president said there had been no indication of additional potential threats.
He also praised the efforts of law enforcement and said that one officer was shot but protected by a bulletproof vest.
He said that officer is doing great.
Secret Service apprehended the suspect at the Washington Hilton where the event was being held in the U.S.
Capitol.
The president and other U.S.
officials were evacuated from the event immediately after the shots were fired just outside the ballroom.
Trump earlier said Vice President J.D.
Vance, First Lady Melania Trump and members of his cabinet were safe when the shots rang out.
Now, the shots did not take place inside the ballroom itself.
This was outside of the ballroom, but obviously audible inside.
On the dais at that point, the president, the first lady, the press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, they were in conversation with Weijia Zhang of CBS News, who was the head of the White House Correspondents Association.
That is when the shots were heard.
Secret Service swarmed the dais, and they covered the president, and they took him offstage right.
