President Emmanuel Macron accepted Laurence Descartes' resignation and called it an act of responsibility at a time when the world's largest museum needs calm.

Descartes has faced intense criticism, especially since the brazen daytime heist saw thieves get away with $100 million in Napoleon-era jewels.

Several people have been arrested, but the jewels are still missing.

A year ago, Macron announced a massive multi-million dollar overhaul that would modernize the world's most visited museum and enable it to handle bigger crowds while giving the Mona Lisa her own room.

The French government was irked when the American embassy retweeted a State Department comment after the killing of a young right-wing activist.

The Post declared, "...violent radical leftism is on the rise in France and is a threat to public safety."

Ambassador Charles Kushner was summoned.

When he did not appear, he was barred from meeting with members of the French government.

The punishment has since been rescinded after Kushner put in a call to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barreau.

The French government summoned Kushner after the U.S.

Embassy posted on social media about the killing of 23-year-old Quentin Durand, saying violent radical leftism is on the rise in France and poses a threat to public safety.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrault said the youth's death was being politicized by outsiders.
