European news channels are talking non-stop about the raised stakes over Greenland, which has been linked to EU member Denmark for more than 300 years.

Speaking on news channel LCI, former French ambassador to Washington Gérard Arrault said European leaders are trapped in a surreal situation where they need the U.S.

to help defend Ukraine, but fear they may have to defend Greenland from the U.S.

European leaders are pushing for a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

The cyber attack was claimed by No Name 057, a pro-Russian group of hackers that has previously targeted media websites and government and corporate websites in countries including Poland, Sweden and Germany.

Experts say its activities are designed to support pro-Russian information warfare.

It's also been accused of other cyber attacks in Europe, including around a NATO summit in the Netherlands and other French government sites.

The group was the target of a big European police operation earlier this year.

The attack was a major blow to La Poste, which delivered 2.5 billion packages last year and employs more than 200,000 people.

France has often been the target of pro-Kremlin disinformation actors.

The probe was ordered by the Culture Ministry after the embarrassing daylight heist.

Agents in the security control room did not have enough screens to follow the images in real time, while a lack of coordination meant police were initially sent to the wrong place.
