In an unheard-of move, President Emmanuel Macron reappointed SΓ©bastien Le Cornu as prime minister just days after Le Cornu resigned from the position.
Le Cornu told the media he has no other ambition but to pull France out of its crisis.
But the parliament is fragmented and no party has a majority, though the extremes have the biggest voting blocs.
Far-right leader Marine Le Pen says Macron must let the French people choose their future.
This is a deplorable circus, she said.
The only solution that respects democracy is to dissolve the National Assembly and hold new elections.
But analysts say doing so might increase fragmentation and the representation of the extremes in the French parliament.

On Monday, Lecornu resigned before even serving, saying the parliament was too fractured to get anything done.
Macron said he would name a new PM.
It's clear Macron wants to avoid dissolving parliament and holding new legislative elections, but so far no one seems to understand why he named the same premier who just threw in the towel.
The far right and left are howling for Macron's resignation more than ever, but some analysts say Le Corneau, a former defense minister, is humble and smart.
They say perhaps he can save the situation.

Europe has largely been sidelined when it comes to brokering peace in the Middle East.
Macron and other European leaders were criticized by Israel and the Trump administration when they recognized a Palestinian state last month at the UN.
But some analysts say those moves, especially the intensive diplomacy of the French-Saudi declaration of recognition, paved the way for Trump's plan.
in such key points as the placing of an international force in Gaza and in getting Arab states to commit, engage and work together.
The French-Saudi declaration also led Arab states and Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas to unequivocally condemn the Hamas atrocities committed on October 7th two years ago and to say there is no future with Hamas.
