She had no idea where this man was taking her and why.
He drove her to a secluded road in Dover where he asked her to get out of the car and transferred her into his own vehicle now.
the family car that he takes his wife and kids everywhere in.
He'd parked it on a quiet road away from residential areas ahead of time, another piece that he had put into place well in advance knowing that he was going to do this.
By that point, Sarah must have known exactly where this was going.
There would never be any legitimate reason for a police officer to make you get into a different vehicle to continue the journey.
especially when that vehicle is parked in the middle of nowhere.
It's not a marked car.
But Cousins was covering his tracks, making sure that one vehicle couldn't be traced all the way to the end destination.
And by now, it was reaching midnight.
Sarah had first been approached by this police officer at 9.30pm, so now she had been with him for two and a half hours.
And finally, he drives her to a rural area just north of Dover,
where it's believed that he carried out her rape and murder in the backseat of his car.
It's unclear just how long the attack lasted for, but it ended with him strangling her to death with his police belt.
He would have had to apply pressure to her neck with that belt for at least two full minutes straight before she passed out or died.
Two minutes.
whole minutes where Sarah struggled and knew that she was about to die out in the middle of nowhere at the hands of this stranger.
Sarah was 33 years old when her life was stolen from her in the most horrifying way imaginable.
And not only did he take her life, he put her through what I can only imagine to be the worst fear and trauma imaginable for hours beforehand.
And now her family are left to carry on life without her.
