Sarah Everard should still be here.
She should still be living the amazing life that she had built for herself.
She would be turning 39 years old just next month,
She might have gotten married or had kids of her own by now.
And I think that's part of why this case stayed with so many people in the way that it did, because Sarah Everard felt familiar.
To many of us young women, she could have been a friend or a colleague or someone we'd gone to uni with.
She was all of us.
And what happened to her was horrific.
It was cruel.
It was deeply unfair.
And while Wayne Cousins will spend the rest of his life behind bars, that can never undo the pain caused to Sarah's loved ones or the impact that this case had on so many people across the UK.
So as always, I want to end this episode by remembering Sarah first and foremost for the life that she lived rather than the way that it was taken from her.
Sarah's mother, Susan, spoke of the loss of her daughter, saying, I yearn for her.
I remember all the lovely things about her.
She was caring, she was funny, she was clever, but she was good at practical things too.
She was a beautiful dancer.
She was a wonderful daughter.
She was always there to listen, to advise, or simply to share the minutia of the day.
And following her mum's words, as we come to the end of this episode, I want to take one last moment to remember Sarah Everard.
From all of us here at Outlaw Podcast, we send our sincere condolences to her loved ones.
