I don't know that I agree with that in regards to certain aspects of the paranormal, but when it comes to aliens, there is a stigma associated with it due to a probably fine design by way of utilizing individuals who do experience things or see things using that information against them to sort of discredit them as a means of keeping a shadow on what's really going on.
