If I pronounce that wrong, please don't call me silly.
But capsaicin basically hits this receptor that we have in our mouths as mammals.
Birds do not have that receptor.
They just don't have this specific one.
That means that they can taste chilli and there's a reason for it.
They can eat the hottest chillies in the world and it's all because of evolution.
Basically the chilli plant created this to protect itself because mammals chew when we eat.
We've got teeth and we chomp down and we destroy the seeds.
Birds do not have teeth.
So when they swallow the seeds, they are maintained and then they go and they poop them out somewhere else and the chilli is able to grow again in another location.
I knew you'd love that one.
Well, the crazy thing that some people do is they put spice, they put, like, hot sauce in their bird seed so that squirrels or rats don't come and eat it.
But I'm like, if you're putting out the bird seed, why do you care who's eating it?
