And actually, Elizabeth Smart's father, Ed, became very close with the Powell family.

And who's the Cox family?

That's Susan Cox Powell's family.

Father, mother, he became close with them because she had disappeared.

So the parents of the wife that was killed became friendly and friends with the Smart family.
