His attorney appeals, saying that he didn't know that he had the right to remain silent.
He didn't know about the Fifth Amendment.
And the Supreme Court actually agrees.
It's made up though because it doesn't say in the Fifth Amendment that you also have to notify someone that's in police custody.
So one of those instances where the Supreme Court sort of reads it into the Constitution and then forever after, they actually retried him anyways without the conviction, still got him acquitted.
But because of this case, while it worked its way up in appeal, now everyone, and he became like a celebrity in the 60s because of that.
He would like sign Miranda Rights cards that cops had to walk around with.
And he actually got stabbed in a bar fight 10 years after.
So he did like 10 years.
He gets stabbed in a bar fight and gets killed.
And then the suspects that they arrested, they read their Miranda Rights to him.
So there's some irony there.
So I think that there's oftentimes these quirky, so he's like Miranda, like,
A hero?
No, he's not a hero.
But as a result of this guy, his story becomes a vehicle for so many people to have the bedrock of rights once you start getting into the justice system.
And I think that you'll find that.
