Agent is a word used differently by the FBI and CIA.

Every time we try to sound like we're cool, like we know what the intelligence community actually is, we make mistakes because we say something that becomes deniable.

So there's a concept of knock, non-official cover.

If you say somebody is a knock and you guess the wrong distinction, they can say, no, he wasn't.

Was he an asset?

I'm sure that has a technical meaning.

You don't mean it technically.

You mean, was he in any way affiliated with the intelligence community?

And it's not just the intelligence community.

One of the ways that the intelligence community functions as a cover for the special operations community, right?

Covert operations is something the CIA does through ground branch that is not intelligence.
