Over the years, though, there has been one person who has ensured that Gerry McCabe's legacy and the injustice that was done here very much remained in the public mindset and also made it very uncomfortable for the Sinn Féin leadership to be associated with these killers.

And that was his wife, Anne McCabe, who became a very prominent campaigner

And the dignity and the respect that she engaged in, it did result in widespread support for her.

Yes, she kept the questions out there.

She kept pointing to the flagrant inconsistencies and behaved, yes, it's a very difficult thing to do for somebody who has, you know, who's thrown in at the, you know, to say the least, at the deep end of all these things and all the vagaries of media and so on and so forth.

I think it was wrong.

Another person I should mention, I had the privilege of meeting recently, was Gerry McCabe's brother-in-law, Pat Carney, a very well-known auctioneer in Limerick.

Not a young man, but still very active.

Himself a former Garda.

And they did.

They and others fought hard to keep the issues associated with this in the limelight.

The Garda investigation into the killing of Detective Garda Gerry McCabe,

and effectively attempted murder as well of Ben O'Sullivan, the case file is still open.

And that's because there are two other members of the gang who are still at large.

Yes, absolutely.

Two further suspected members of the IRA gang are still at large and believed to be living abroad.
