She was also a Kerry woman from down near Castle Island.

The two of them married.

They had five children.

And another reason why Gerry McCabe was known around Limerick was he was so often seen with his five kids around the place at weekends when he was off duty and so on.

Talk to us then about those fraught times.

We were in the mid-90s.

Peace process was well underway, but there were still tensions and there was still a difficult security situation in the country.

It was and it wasn't underway, you see.

That is the point.

1996.

This happens in June.

They write precisely 30 years ago.

And the peace process really was kicking off in late 1993 through the efforts of the late Taoiseach Albert Reynolds and the British Prime Minister John Major.

We had things like the Downing Street Declaration.

It took until August 1994 for a full IRA ceasefire.

And that was pulling and dragging on and then shock horror.

February 1996, basically three and a half months before this incident, one day a statement, a terse statement from the IRA saying, look, ceasefire is over.

One hour later, two bombs in London, several people killed, including the Canary Wharf bomb.
