And listen, some people are very dependent people.
The only way to address that dependency is to create the conditions for their independence.
So sometimes we follow through.
Not with malice, not with malice, but with the sense that we are giving them an experience that hopefully will be therapeutic.

And again, some people come to the therapist because of guilt and shame.
A therapist should not be adding that to you.
A therapist may express a concern for you, sure, but to turn that into shame or guilt, when it feels manipulative of you, that's a huge red flag.
Totally.
And, you know, myself, in terms of how I practiced, I am retired.
I'm not looking for referrals.
But myself, in terms of how I practice...
I always respected that.
I'd always say at the end of my sessions, what more would you like from me?
How would you like me to be further helpful?
And so I typically took the perspective that we don't necessarily have a next meeting.
It's always at the discretion of the person we seek to serve.
