I got emails this morning off the piece I wrote for the 42 saying that he's not Irish.
Going back to his line that I was brought up feeling more British than Irish around the whole debacle around who he represented at the Olympics, which he dreaded.
And like, who cares?
You know, like, like pass that line more.
I feel more British than Irish.
It's not him saying I feel zero percent Irish, you know, and, you know, it's a blindingly obvious point.
But we did all vote for this in an overwhelming majority for the right to feel part British and part Irish.
So there's an obviously modernity issue.
There's a modernity in his ambition.
There's a modernity in his thinking.
There's a modernity in his openness and generosity.
There's a modernity in his self-analysis.
And there's a modernity in his identity as well.
And just the fact that he won't wrap himself in the flag when Pat Hickey or whoever else wants him to.
Who cares?
You know, here's a guy who went to the PGA Tour and initially felt guilty about winning.
He felt it was kind of almost indecent or a bit big headed.
And I'm sorry, that is the most Irish thing I've ever heard.
I mean, judge a man by his actions rather than his words.
So I completely agree with Mick.
