But I'm curious, as you went back over the course, and I appreciate how you sort of unpacked this journey that you went on with your team, trying to understand our origin story.

What were they?

I mean, it begs the question, what was most revelatory to you?

What did you come in and just stop?

You sort of stopped in your tracks, like, how did I miss this?

How did I not understand more fully that?

Well, one of it is the centrality of Washington.

I mean, I just was like not willing to accept that notion that he's the father of our country.

But there's a German language newspaper in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the spring after the first, the Valley Forge, the horrible Valley Forge, who calls him Das Landesvater, the country's father.

And you begin to realize that invested in this person,

is the future of this place.

If it had been captured, it had been all over.

But I think it's more the grassroots of this, how much it meant to people.

Remember, this is a civil war.

And that means it's not just the British 3,000 miles away.

We're just trying to throw them off.
