President Trump says Iran war objectives are nearing completion.

Trump delivered a roughly 20-minute primetime speech from the White House.

He repeated claims that the U.S.

has destroyed Iran's military, urged patience with high costs brought on by the spike in oil prices, and said countries that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz should take action to secure the passage.

Oil prices rose following the speech, and global stocks are losing ground after Wednesday's gains on Wall Street.

The U.K.

will host an international meeting today to discuss the Strait of Hormuz after President Trump suggested that he could end the Iran war without reopening the critical waterway.

He later said on social media that the U.S.

would only consider a ceasefire when the Strait is open.

The majority of Supreme Court justices seem sceptical of President Trump's efforts to limit birthright citizenship.
