So what do you take from this?
Three hard lessons.
Power without constant renewal becomes corruption.
Even conservatives in power.
Yes, we know that.
The republic wasn't designed for permanent ruling parties left or right.
Two.
Voters will forgive almost anything except the feeling that you stopped fighting for them and started fighting for your own club or team.
Does that sound familiar, Republicans?
Economy, corruption, everyday pain.
Those are the battlefields where civilizations are actually lost or saved.
And the Republicans must learn that lesson.
Lesson three, the fight for Western civilization isn't just against the left.
It is against something I have been railing against here for the last few, maybe two months.
Complacency.
Complacency on our own side.
If we become what we once opposed or we fail to serve the public for not standing against those things we once opposed, the republic dies from within.
That's the lesson.
So when you're seeing Hillary Clinton, the end of Viktor Orban's autocratic regime is a victory, not just for Hungary, but for the people who value democracy around the world.
No, that's not the truth.
