Not soon.
Hopefully.
I mean,
I have trees to plant, people who need me to be the man that you raised.
But someday, someday, I'll find you both on a porch in heaven, in the light, in the window of a house I haven't seen, there with the ones who came before you.
And I'll walk up those steps and we'll have all the afternoons we ever wanted.
Nothing special.
Just...
time enough at last to waste.
Until then, thank you.

You know, it's our fathers who teach us how to be fathers.
They do it without any words, usually.
Usually we just learn by watching.
But in our time, we can't take words like father for granted anymore and assume we all know what that means because I don't know if we do.
For a long time, I had a hard time describing what a father was.
My father was abused by his father and his father by his father.
And my father decided he's not going to do that, but he didn't know how to be a good father.
And so to make sure he didn't do it, he kind of just worked himself to death.
