I wished him well because he was playing at Princess Diana's funeral.
The thing with that generation was.
The men's semis and women's finals were on the Saturday.
So there was no recovery like there is today on the Friday.
And on that Saturday, I woke up in the morning, you know, feeling a little bit ill because the fact the previous two days after the cry check match, I went to see a doctor.
So I didn't practice two days leading in because I lost my voice.
I had a sore throat.
I was ill.
I saw the doctor.
She said, after two days, you should be absolutely fine to be ready for the semis.
I played a five-set epic against Bjorkman.
I won 7-5 in the fifth.
So the next day I go to the courts, my doctor says to me, okay, I've got to apply for TUE because I think you're going to run out of gas.
You're going to get tired.
And I thought in my mind that taking a steroid, even though it was a therapeutical use exemption, which a lot of great players have used at slams when they're sick or they're ill.
My moral compass at that time was no, no, I'm not taking anything.
I'm going to find a way to get through this on adrenaline.
It's not going to hurt me in retrospect.
I should have actually taken it because that's the only one match in my career I have a doubt what could have been.
I might have still lost the match.
