I'm like, there's Dave doing the actual work where the cynics all are just ready to hurl stuff at him, and he gets in there swinging.

I do believe the too-many-men non-call to be defendable.
The rule states that, hang on, the player must intentionally play the puck, and if it hits him accidentally, then there is no penalty as long as both players are within the legal distance of the bench.
That's true.
I think Hudson played it, quote, accidentally on purpose.

But there is enough gray area to apply the rule.
The one lesson about officials in the postseason, when there is gray area, enough gray area to apply a rule that keeps the whistles in their pockets, referees will take that opportunity every single time.
