Senators Adam Schiff and Ruben Gallego have rescinded their support for Congressman Swalwell following a San Francisco Chronicle report on an allegation by a former staffer that Swalwell sexually assaulted her.
Senator Schiff posted on X that he read the article and that Swalwell should withdraw from the race.
Senator Gallego, also on X, called the article's allegation indefensible in that he takes them seriously.
Rusty Hicks, chair of the California Democratic Party, said in a statement the allegation is deeply disturbing and people should be held accountable for misconduct, including a member of Congress.

In announcing the investigation into New York's Medicaid system, the head of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr. Mehmet Oz, claimed the state gave 5 million people personal care services, helping them with meals and grooming.
Agency spokesman Chris Kreppich told the Associated Press the number was more like 450,000, just 6 to 7 percent of total enrollees.
Kreppich said CMS is committed to fully reflecting billing practices, but the New York probe continues because there are still concerns about oversight.
A spokeswoman for New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the initial CMS numbers were false, and they are glad the agency admits it.

Acting ICE field office director in Miami Kelly Walker said a state and federal effort led to his arrest.
He was illegally smuggled into the U.S.
from Haiti in 2022, arrested and given a deportation order.
But temporary protected status for Haitians let him stay.
Walker said Joaquin will go through the courts, but if a judge orders him to leave, ICE will take him.
The Trump administration moved to end the protected status, but that action was blocked by a federal judge in February.
