Under federal law, states are supposed to finish any program for systematically removing ineligible voters from their rolls 90 days before Election Day in federal races.
Congress passed this ban on late mass purges to make sure any eligible voters who mistakenly get flagged have enough time to resolve problems and cast their ballots.
But Republican state officials in Arizona argue the ban does not apply to programs like theirs that focus on removing non-U.S.
citizens.
The Supreme Court has not yet scheduled oral arguments for this case.
A decision is not expected until next year.
For this fall's midterm election, some legal experts are wondering how courts will enforce the ban on late voter roll purges.
In 2024, the high court allowed a purge in Virginia that canceled registrations of U.S.
citizens eligible to vote.
