If they could just pay their way out of jail or not have to pay anything, then what's the point of having jail at all?

I mean, why even take these people to jail if you're just going to let them out?

And then Irina's law would also bring back the electric chair and firing squads to kill inmates on death row.

And of course, some House Democrats sided with Republicans, but no Senate Democrats did.

Some Democrats argued that these new measures would not have prevented Irina Zerutskaya's death and that Republicans were just playing politics.

How would these measures not have prevented Irina's death?

This man was in and out of jail, in and out of the system for 14 years.

Clearly the system is broken.

Clearly the system doesn't work.

Clearly no rehabilitation was happening.

Clearly he wasn't getting the mental health treatment that he needed.

Clearly he wasn't in jail long enough.

You go to jail, you're supposed to, I don't know, learn your lesson.

The point that I think most Americans feel is send someone to jail so that they're off the streets.

not just in there for a few years, back out, back for a few months, back out, let out of jail.

It's ridiculous.

And the Democrats in Washington, after this Irena Zyruska's law was passed in North Carolina, they said that Republicans were playing politics, Democrats kept up the charade.

For whatever reason, they decided to stand with criminals and not innocent bystanders.
