It was only discussed the other way around.
So this lack of awareness.
seeps into the justice system and then it seeps into the medical system.
Female predators may not be convicted.
They may not see jail time.
A lot of times pedophiles don't go to jail.
They just aren't able to teach anymore or go near a school.
And when it comes to how female pedophiles are diagnosed, that is different too.
I just saw this headline in People the other day and I was shocked.
This is a woman who was worried that she was a pedophile, but she was diagnosed with OCD instead.
It was a rare form of OCD, and she says, I thought I was a monster.
For years, I avoided talking about it, but she was diagnosed with pedophilia-themed obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Interesting.
She says that she grew up with anxiety and panic attacks.
She recalled having constant thoughts about death and being kidnapped.
So she struggled with this kind of OCD and intrusive thoughts in her childhood.
She grew up.
And then by the age of 15, these intrusive thoughts escalated.
She would have constant sexual and violent thoughts about children.
And she says that it took a turn.
