Have you heard of travel maths?
Now, this is apparently the phenomenon where normal maths doesn't apply when you're overseas.
So by the time you've come back, you've well and truly blown your budget.
Apparently, Kiwis overspent by an estimated $700 million overseas in just the last year.
The research has come from WISE, and their travel money expert is Anhar Kambai.

Now, apparently the main reason for the overspend is that holiday money doesn't feel real.
Is that believable?
One of the things that people get stung with is the ATM withdrawal fees and the foreign exchange transaction fees.
I mean, that stuff is real, isn't it?
You have no idea until you get there and you're taking the money out how much they're going to charge you.
Only solution is really just deal with the money in the currency, set yourself an amount in that currency and deal with it.
