Two of those six men arrested had connections to Count Dante, even if those connections were tenuous at best.
Well, perhaps not so coincidentally, Pete Gushi's lawyer shared an office space with Bob Cooley.
And Gushi had dropped by Bob Cooley's office one day to hide $25,000 in cash behind Cooley's sofa because Gushi knew he was facing arrest.
In fact, what I'm going to do is I'm going to piss over here.
It's Gooshy's now.
Gooshy had also left instructions with his attorney that when he was arrested, he was supposed to go to Cooley's office, retrieve the 25 grand in cash hidden behind the sofa, and use it to bail Gooshy out of jail.
And while that connection to Count Dante was indeed circumstantial, Dante was absolutely questioned by the FBI in regards to the heist as a possible suspect.
Dante even passed a lie detector test, but some believe that Count Dante was able to use his martial arts training and his meditation skills to cheat the detector by controlling his vital signs.
And so Count Dante was never charged as being a part of the Pearlator heist.
Wow.
But there are other factors that imply Count Dante may have been involved.
First of all, out of all the people arrested, the only man who went free was Dante's neighbor in Fall River, Luigi DeFonso.
While the other five guys went to prison, DeFonso was found not guilty of all charges relating to the heist.
DeFonso is one of those mob guys that just...
couldn't make a fucking conviction stick to him.
Yeah.
For whatever reason.
Second, on the very next night after the heist, Dante supposedly called Arthur Rapkin and spilled all the details of the Perlator job to his bullfighting, coke-selling former student over the phone again.
I'm doing the coolest thing tomorrow.
Dante painted himself as the mastermind who introduced all the parties involved and told everyone what to do.
