Worst of all, though, Jimmy Savile had gotten the girl pregnant, and when Savile had the nerve to call the girl's house afterward, the girl's mother told Savile about the child.

Savile simply said that wasn't possible, and he hung up.

The girl had to get an illegal abortion, performed without painkillers, for 150 pounds, about the equivalent of about $4,000 today.

It was paid for by her grandmother, and I think they said it took her two years to pay off the debt.

And also after it was discovered that most of his money went to charity, there were very few people who actually got

In other words, Jimmy Savile's reputation as a tastemaker outweighed his reputation as a sexual predator.

So when the BBC came up with a new music countdown show, they tapped Jimmy Savile as the host.

That show was, of course, Top of the Pops.
