You know, I'm envious of their use of words.
So that was a great counterbalance to the darkness of the book.
I thought the ending was beautiful and fitting, although not for the faint-hearted.
There's a British Indian chap, Abir Mukherjee, who's set some crime novels in Calcutta in India, just as sort of colonial India is getting into strife.
And the main character is a policeman and an opium addict.
And the streets and the visuals are just incredible, as is the representation of the history of the time.
So I highly recommend those.
The first in the series is called A Rising Man.
Do you talk about this with your colleagues?
When I'm writing, I read genres that don't cross over the sort of style of writing I'm doing.
So crime fiction's often a fallback.
