Hero Republican turned MI5 spy.
The incredible story of Dennis Donaldson and his murder at a cottage in Glenty's Donegal 20 years ago is one of the most intriguing of our times and will now form part of a podcast special by CrimeWorld.com.
As Antoine Duffy is brought before the Special Criminal Court in recent weeks accused of the murder, we delve into the background of Donaldson and the amazing story of his fall from grace.
It's an incredible story.
Yeah.
And we have dipped into it, done some
decent research on it to tell the story really who Dennis Donaldson was, you know, his life up to the point that he was revealed as this IRA informer and spy.
And the questions that still remain around the whole thing, because even the murder itself isn't really that, it's not that evident exactly what happened or why, even though it should be.
So Antoine Duffy has been brought before the special criminal court in Dublin in the recent weeks.
And it's actually the 20 year anniversary since Dennis Donaldson was killed at a Donegal cottage where he was hiding out in the aftermath of revealing himself as an informer.
Duffy was brought to Dublin from Scotland on foot of a European arrest warrant.
He was brought into Casement Aerodrome and he will be in custody pending his trial.
He was in prison over there.
Yeah, and he was convicted in 2015 for his part in a plot to murder members of the Ulster Defence Association who were based over there.
He was remanded in custody at the moment here to appear again in April the 13th.
But...
I think his arrest and the fact that it's the anniversary has really shone a spotlight back into what is one of the most intriguing stories of our time.
Yeah, because he was a politician.
He was a Sinn FΓ©in politician.
And I mean, he had a history that went all the way back to, you know, how he had been a sort of revered IRA hero at one time.
