You can keep four players that you've had on your list because if you're coming in to buy a franchise and control it and run it, you want to be able to dictate what kind of list you've got and not have that tied up in long-term deals that other teams have already had signed away.
Yep.
Aaron, obviously, you can't stand still in any facet of life.
You need to open your mind up to progress.
This is a form of progress.
I get that.
But equally, there's a core group of supporters of both these teams who are now going to have to reflect upon what they do when the new arrangement is rolled out.
How do you relate to those people, given your special bond personally as a major player in the Renegades since inception?
It's a good question, Damo, because...
In Australia, we don't franchise things off willy-nilly, do we?
And it's not common for people to be, or a lot of people to be changing teams and the supporter base being challenged in, well, I support this player, so do I change my team?
It's not something that's happened all that often in Australian sport.
I know in America when your best player can be traded overnight without knowing, without having any say in it.
So I really feel for the supporters in this situation.
I know the teams...
The squad list is still going to be the same, albeit drafting a couple of internationals or the odd trade or free agent signing.
But I think that just the name will be different for now on anyway.
So I don't see how it changes a huge amount.
But I do feel for the fans who pump their hard-earned into memberships and coming to games and supporting and putting their kids through cricket blast and all of that kind of stuff and paying subs on the weekend.
So, yeah, it's going to be a challenging period, no doubt.
