Anthropic had a responsible scaling policy where they said, once AI gets to a certain point and we're not sure we can responsibly keep scaling it up, we are going to stop doing that because we don't want to risk the human race.
I'm paraphrasing, but that was basically it.
And the same day that all this happened, they said, we are abandoning that.
We don't think we can, uh, we can hold to that commitment and continue growing Claude, so we're just going to not.
And that would have been, like, the news if it wasn't for this shit going down with the Department of Defense.
Like, cause I think that's a big deal, where they're like, actually, we're not sure that we can be safe and secure humanity continuing to exist, but we're gonna keep scaling Claude anyway.
That seems kind of bad and evil, and the fact that they are overshadowed by a much greater evil is kind of lucky that it happened that same news cycle.
But I'm not all the way on board with Anthropic, you know, partially for this reason.
I'd like to hear Matt's.
No, I don't know the details either.
I've been completely wrapped up in the hex step thing instead.
Yep, I wish they would have stuck to their RSP, honestly.
I understand their idea that with us, it's only a 20% of Doom, where with someone else it'd be 30% of Doom maybe, so I'd rather take that risk.
But maybe if they were willing to say, we're going to slow down and invite other people to slow down too, then that would be a better move because then everybody could just slow down at once.
Rather than being like, oh, okay, they've abandoned one of their safeguards so they can keep racing, so now we have to too.
Although, admittedly, if the guy you're trying to negotiate with is Sam Altman, then you're better off just not.
He really strikes me as the kind of person that you cannot have any sort of agreement with because he'll turn the instant he thinks he can gain advantage.
So I'm definitely more inclined to like Anthropic than any of the others.
I think they're doing the best.
