I publish a piece and I feel like I did it in the most honest, fair-minded way possible.
And it ends up pissing a bunch of people off and they leave.
And it's hard to process that as like a public figure, a writer who's doing this work.
But I think ultimately, there are a lot of people who are really interested in this product.
And, you know, when I'm having tough days, I remind myself, I'm running a media outfit with 12 full-time employees and over 500,000 people on our mailing list and a half million downloads on our pockets every month.
And like, there is an audience here.
They care, they pay for the work, they support us, they're politically diverse.
And that gives me a lot of faith in the country.
And I, you know, my optimistic take is, I don't know if we've hit rock bottom yet, but I think we're getting there.
And I think we're pretty close.
And I think the people that I talk to in my day-to-day life
The MAGA friends I have, the progressive queer Brooklyn friends I have, whatever, they're on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
And they all feel exhausted by the way the system is working right now.
They're not energized.
They're not stoked about the country.
They're not optimistic.
They're like, this sucks.
It sucks.
And they feel it.
And I think that's an opening for some genuine change there.
