I took out a couple of the easy to reach ones and had a stroke of good luck as the tent bag came into view.

I leaned over the other boxes and picked up the bag and took the big garden umbrella that's set beside it too, just in case it rained tomorrow.

I paused.

I put the tent down.

It took me a couple of seconds to get back to the kitchen window and focus on the darkness outside.

My eyes weren't yet adjusted to the dark, so I couldn't see all the way to the back fence.
