We would go for a walk along the path, long walks, where we would be able to laugh about things.
Perhaps I would cry.
My grandmother never cried.
She remained strong for me.
I knew she was trying to hold it.
So we would do all of these things.
At some point, I came back to New York.
My next door neighbor to my grandmother had a cell phone, so I would call my grandmother sometimes and I would speak to her.
And often she would borrow the phone and she would call me.
My grandmother did not understand that I was in a different time zone, so she would call me anytime she wanted.
And mostly it was around 4 a.m.
And she would call me and she would say to me, why do you sound so sleepy?
It's the middle of the day or something like that.
And I would say, well, I was just a little tired, so I was just sleeping.
I didn't want to explain anything to her.
So then we would talk about all sorts of things.
So one time she called me.
It was again 4 a.m.
