Shortly after President Trump began his second term, Vance was handed a high-stakes assignment, save TikTok without compromising United States security.
I'm told by people close to the vice president that over the past year, Vance quietly led late-night negotiations with tech giants, investors, and Chinese officials, working to pry control of the platform away from Beijing while keeping it online for millions of Americans.
The talks nearly collapsed more than once, but the administration kept pushing, and the result was a newly structured U.S.-based TikTok, majority owned by American and allied investors, with Chinese parent ByteDance reduced to a minority stake.
President Trump is calling it a dramatic victory and a promise kept, crediting Vance with helping pull off one of the most complex tech deals of his presidency.
I think a lot about this question of social cohesion in the United States.
I think about how do we form the kind of society, again, where people can raise families, where people join in institutions together, where what I think Burke would have called the mediating layers of society are actually healthy and vibrant.
And I do think that those who care about what might be called the common good, they sometimes underweight how destructive to the common good society
immigration at the levels and at the pace that we've seen over the last few years.
I really do think that social solidarity is destroyed when you have too much migration too quickly.
And so that's not because I hate the migrants or I'm motivated by grievance.
That's because I'm trying to preserve something in my own country.
To our fellow Americans, we say you're never going to find great meaning in a cubicle or in front of a computer screen.
But you will find great meaning if you dedicate yourself to the creation and sustenance of human life.
Vance announced the new rule at the March for Life rally in Washington, D.C.
Now we're expanding this policy to protect life, to combat DEI and the radical gender ideologies that prey on our children.
Groups abroad already don't get taxpayer money if they support abortion.
