And then all of a sudden it was like a sea change at Old Trafford where, without having that point to prove, without...
without that new manager bounce, it almost felt that they went back to square one and the same issues that cropped up during Mourinho's time sort of resurfaced.
And the same has followed this season, the same sort of path, glimpses of brilliance, moments of brilliance from players.
But still, one or two signs that United are not quite at the level they... There's still improvement for United to attain.
They struggle to break down teams that sit in against them.
That's plagued them this season.
It plagued them under Mourinho.
And when they can go off and hit teams on the counter, they're as good as anyone in the league.
So one or two areas still need improving and that will all come down to whether Solskjaer can continue what I believe has been quite a good record in the transfer market.
Harry Maguire and Aaron Mambisaka have been real key additions this season and whether Solskjaer is able to bring in players of that calibre, that bed in that quickly and start delivering on the pitch for the club will determine whether the next 12 months is more successful than his first.

I've had conversations with Tottenham fans who when Mourinho was appointed they expressed concerns about the style of play but there is a level of pragmatism to Spurs' approach as you would expect with Mourinho teams but he's coupled that with harnessing the attacking talent they have at the club and really championing that.
They've scored 12 goals at home
this season, which is built up perfectly for the visit of his former club, Chelsea, where I'm sure he'll love to show that he's still got it after that disappointing... I'm sure he would have been gutted to get sacked by Manchester United.
He wants to prove that he can still do it at the highest level.
Yeah, the heat absolutely... The heat rising on Ralf Assenhutu at Southampton.
The big talking point I'm looking ahead to at this game is can Villa actually get their strikers firing?
They've enjoyed almost like a buy-in midweek in the Carabao Cup as they put five past a youthful Liverpool side.
