We believe that if a decision was taken not to prosecute John Shaw for this murder, it was in all probability influenced by a view that there was inadequate corroborative evidence of his confession.
People have come forward once they started hearing the podcast.
So there is evidence available that would not have formed part of the case file at the time of trial that may justify a cold case review at this stage.
And we were able to stand that up by getting on to the hospital, who were very helpful in finding the relevant record.
So we know it is the right place, right time, right date.
If we take the statements at face value, Shaw acknowledges driving around this area, they were spinning around randomly all evening.
If the statement is corroborated by Gillian being able to put this strange car in this vicinity at the time, that would shore up the statement of confession.
Was it simply that they didn't feel there was a need for a further conviction?
Was it a resource issue?
Was it a legal ruling?
None of this stuff was clear.
The current coroner for Wexford has been very helpful and we can now confirm that the inquest was never held.
There's no explanation coming forward for that.
We were very lucky that Dr. Nixon, coroner for Wexford, really got engaged by this oversight and started to retrieve the available records, including Professor Harbinson's post-mortem report.
And other files were then reviewed by senior guard in the Wexford district who were all very helpful.
