All of you out there, I know it's not what you want. You want four-year guys, you want to see guys develop over time. You long, you long for Grayson Allen, you know, and Quinn Cook and Zubeck. And we could go on and on. And I'm not even going back, you know, to the 80s, 90s. I'm just going back like 10 years or so. Emile Jefferson, you know?
It's about the university, but these guys are trying to get into the best position for them. And that is what we fought for when we said that NIL needs to become a part of this equation. All right. Last word on this from me really quick. It's not over. And by that, I mean two things. The first one is, I think we're going to hear about more Duke players leaving the program. I don't think, you know, based on what you and I've heard, again, we're not putting stuff out there.
directly at this time. But what you and I've heard, what is whispered around people who have sources and people who pretend to have sources and things like that, is that there are more players who have eligibility who will leave Duke for the portal, not for the NBA. There'll be guys living for the NBA also, but I'm talking directly about portal players. So I think that it is not done. And also what I mean by it is not done is don't get worried.
Don't freak out because you hear about guys leaving until you hear about the guys who are coming in to replace them. It would be, based on the past few years, based on the entire time that John Shire has been building rosters for the Duke Blue Devils, it would be foolish
I say stupid for you to think that Duke is not going to field one of the best rosters, one of the most talented rosters, a roster capable of winning a national title with John Shire at the helm.
He's done it every single year he's been here. There's a reason, Donald. All the ridiculously early preseason top 25s have Duke in the top five. Heck, almost all of them have Duke in the top three. And these guys, they're like, we have no idea what the roster is going to be. We just know that John Shire always builds a great roster. So guys are leaving, but don't.
Get your panties in the wad, so to speak, until you've thought about, until you've seen who's coming in in their place. Because I guarantee you something. I guarantee you John Shire didn't say to Nick Hemenia, dude, you're going to have a huge role here next year. You are going to be a starter. You're going to be a major player for us. You're going to be just, hey, UCLA is telling you you're going to be one of their top two players. You'll be one of the top players here at Duke. He didn't say that to Nick.
Joten, kaverit.
Be calm, relax, wait until it's all shaked out. It's going to take a little bit of time. It may not be until after we know about all the NBA draft decisions. It'll take some time, but believe me, Donald and I are going to be on here in May and June and the such, and we're going to be telling all of you, my goodness, look at this amazing roster. We once again have a team that will be at the top of the sport, because John Shire doesn't know how to do it any other way.
All right, with that we're going to take a quick break. On the other side, the NCAA. Tinkering with the rules a little bit, what does it mean for Duke? What could it mean for a guy who graduated, but may be back? We'll tell you all about it in just a moment.
All right, Duke fans, do you have hunger pains? Are you snacking all the time? For me, eating healthy, it isn't a willpower problem, it's a setup problem. Until I found Factor. With Factor, I'm hitting my nutrition goals this season without the planning or the grocery runs.

All right, we're back here on the DBR podcast, Duke Basketball Roundup. Donald and Jason. Donald. The NCAA. They're talking about... Now, nothing's official yet. Nothing's been agreed to yet. But in just the past couple days, we've heard a couple interesting things. First one is the NCAA is apparently almost certainly going to expand the NCAA tournament. Dude, I don't even want to talk about that right now. We're not going to.
Okay, let me talk about it real quick. It's stupid. Next. Yeah, exactly. Moving on. Tournament's damn near perfect. I still think 64 would be perfect. I'd like the bubble to be a little bit harder to get onto. But I think they're talking about like 72 or 76. 76. Yeah, 76, whatever. I don't want to talk about that right now. What I do want to talk about is this.
There's a proposal and it looks like it's going to pass. I mean, look, there have been a lot of things where you thought they were going to happen and then they don't happen. But supposedly the NCAA is going to try and fix a lot of this eligibility craziness, nonsense, insanity by saying 19, when you turn 19, which is when your high school class graduates, unless you're like Cooper Flagg or something like that. Or me. I was 17 when I graduated. Look at you, you little genius. Uh-huh.
When you turn 19, when your high school class graduates, five years. You've got five years from that date, and you can be eligible all five of those years. We're not interested in redshirting anymore. We're not interested in guys applying for waivers for this or that or the other. We're not interested in 25-year-olds coming over from Europe and having eligibility. I'm talking to you, Virginia.
MikÀ hÀn on? Tista Ritter. Tista Ritter on 23-vuotias. HÀnellÀ on neljÀ vuotta valitettavuutta.
Muistakaa kaikkea. Sinulla on viisi vuotta pelaamisesta. Pelaa, nauti viisi vuotta, ja sitten olet valmis NCAA-sportissa. Minusta se on todella kiva. Ja jos se tapahtuu, voiko Malik Browni tulla takaisin muualla? Voimmeko sitÀ?
yes please can we get that please yes please i'll take two yeah the the the presumption is that the ncaa like they usually do with these kind of rules that they'll kind of they'll try and find a way to phase it in like the last thing they would want is you know a guy who uh a guy who was 24
and anticipating playing next year to suddenly say to him, oh no, you cannot play. Now, there are not a lot of guys like that, but there are some of them out there in the college basketball world who, for one reason or another, came to college late. Maybe they were international, maybe there were just other circumstances that caused them to come to school late. And the NCAA doesn't want to be in a position where they are suddenly kicking guys out of the sport and affecting teams' rosters and such. It'll be phased in.
