And the only way the church and the gospel can withstand cultural pressures is by adding or taking away.
And this is the error of legalistic fundamentalism.
whether it is on behalf of liberalism or legalistic fundamentalism, whether it is to make it more palatable to the culture we live in or to make it stand more in our view in the culture we live in, it's doing damage to the faith.
And that can't be.
It has to be contended against, fought against.
This faith was, he says, quote, was delivered once for all.
There's finality.
You can't adjust this thing.
You can't make it something else.
It's not a wax nose that you get to shape into the way that you want it to be.
It's once delivered for all.
And what he is saying to these churches he's writing to, and he's saying to us today, it's not enough just to have faith.
You also have to contend for the faith.
Both are necessary.
Otherwise, the church will be lost.
Paul echoes these same things.
