And indeed, the next day, Friday, which was actually the last day of the winter session, as dramatic as that, the parliamentarians cooperated.
The opposition came to the lower house first.
They passed the law.
And that's the only business that was transacted.
Immediately after that, they all stormed out.
And that very same day, later in the day, in the afternoon, the law went to the upper house.
And again, the opposition cooperated and the law was passed.
And in a most unimaginable, dramatic fashion, the bill became the law of the land.
It has changed India like never before as far as the disabled population of our country is concerned.
No school or college or university can now deny disabled students admission.
As far as employment is concerned, there is a quota as far as government jobs are concerned.
Many of the new buildings that are being built are now accessible and disabled friendly.
But having said that, it's not completely hunky-dory.
I mean, I would say it's like a glass half full, half empty.
There is so much more to be done.
I mean, on the scale of 1 to 10, I would say that we are at not even 2 yet.
So it's that much of a long road ahead of us.
But we are getting there inch by inch.
