There's a YMCA national hui, 2013 or 14.
They had a national hui and Christchurch and me and Tiki were tasked with
the welcome the opening and keynote keynote speaking and tiki was always the the front man he was really good he's really um he's an academic and i was i was kind of like the mahi guy in the background doing all the bits and pieces anyway he goes bro you should tell your story and i was like oh that's a bit new and then he encouraged me and helped me and anyway we got to the part and i told my story and
people responded, which was empowering.
And people were encouraging.
And I felt awkward walking around after thinking, like, you know about me.
Yeah.
Another guy who was a sergeant in the Army for 21 years, he works at Bridge for Change now.
I told him, I was like, do you want to come and do some stuff at our camps with our boys from a different perspective?
And he used that opportunity to –
Because he was saying in the army, everyone's there because they want to be and they want to learn.
But when you've got kids who are not there because they want to be, and I'm talking about army, and you have to try and teach them, it's about working to the audience.
Anyway, while we were there, I gave this – I spoke to these kids because he's used to get down and give me 20 now, you know.
And when I spoke to them, I spoke to them from being vulnerable.
Like I shared some stuff to the kids about – and the kids responded to me better than the way they responded to that.
