I don't think anyone should feel bad about this.
I think he thought that this was a wonderful opportunity for him to better the life of his children.
And he'd ask me, is he doing the right thing for his children?
I try, but I cannot understand how this person is seen as a hero.
I try not to, but I lose some faith in humanity.
My initial impression was that he's just a backpacker going through Asia.
I told him a story about how I went to the hospital to get a MRI and x-ray and I had zero insurance.
And after I go get the bill, it was about $180 and he couldn't believe it.
So that's what kind of sparked the conversation about health insurance in the U.S.
The way he spoke about the healthcare system is the same way anyone I meet that's living abroad speaks about it, honestly, including myself.
