My wife remembers him being very quiet and serious, but the sweetest guy, and of course, so very talented.
She said he was already honing his comedic chops even then.
Coincidentally, another Wesleyan classmate of David's was Ed Dector, who also worked on Boy Meets World during the first season.
And they would have both again worked together when David wrote a movie called The New Guy that Ed actually directed.
And this is by way of saying that if you look at David's credits, you see a pattern of frequent collaborations with the same people, a testament to how much people respected and liked working with him.
I love David's laugh and the joy he brought to his work.
I mean, David's laugh is always reassuring that it was never forced or false.
It was a reliable, true barometer of whether the material or performances were funny or working.
You know, a funny side note is I never knew David to not eat an apple a day.
I mean, every day without fail, there was that apple he'd bring to work.
And to this day, whenever I bite into an apple, I can't help but think of him.
Working with David was just so easy and fun.
You know, he personified the heart and soul of Boy Meets World.
He knew the formula of how to mix the humor with the dramatic moments of the show, always doing his best to honor the character's authenticity.
I remember one time after taping a show, he turned to me and said, quick, let's get out of here before they realize we'd actually do this for free.
I never saw David sweat or get flustered or lose his temper.
And I never once heard him belittle or talk down to anyone.
He had an even hand that put everyone at ease, creating an environment that allowed and encouraged everyone to do their very best work.
Producer-writer Jeff Sherman wrote a beautiful and touching homage about David on Facebook, giving a firsthand perspective from the writer's room and how incredible he was in co-running the show during the second and third season.
And I agree with everything he says.
